A short Clip from a video I'm making about International Boulevard in Oakland, Ca. This clip shows the spot where a 3-year-old boy was shot in a drive by shooting on August 8, 2011. The car wash and BBQ in the clip was an event to raise money for the family of the 3-year-old boy.

There's been way too much violence on this is street. Here's a link to the timeline of shootings on International Boulevard since 2000.

Full Deck presents an anthology of skate-art from the 1960’s to the present. The skate artist’s aesthetic—raw, passionate and personal—is energized by a devotion to the act of skating and a DIY embrace of skate culture.

Since the first graphic was drawn onto a board, the culture of skateboarding has grown hand in hand with visual arts movements such as the Mission School (Barry McGee, Chris Johanson) and graffiti art. The skate culture’s embrace of individual style, approach and intention is, I think, what continues to draw new skaters to this renegade art practice—a hybrid in a realm of its own. And like the inclusive surf community, skaters and skate artists span several generations.

The multi-media skate art community fosters the highly unique mix of painting, graphics, photography, filmmaking, music, stickers, magazines and clothing—the ever-growing creative by-products stemming from this alternative and popular mode of transportation. The colorful graphic paintings on the bottom of a skateboard are one of the purest forms of self-expression: highly personal and mostly created without artistic boundaries—just like skateboarding itself.

So when does does pumping people up cross the line? It did yesterday in Clearwater, Fla., where the Washington Post's Dana Millbank reports that the crowd turned nasty:

"Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her 'less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media.' At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, 'Sit down, boy.'"

At a rally in New Mexico Monday, when McCain asked a crowd "Who is Barack Obama?" you can hear someone shout back "a terrorist!" in the video below:

The McCain campaign is in serious lockdown mode. At a Palin rally in Florida this week, St. Pete Times' reporter Eileen Schulte wrote about the difficulty of interviewing Palin supporters at a public rally:

"CLEARWATER -- Constantly under the watchful eyes of security, the media wasn't permitted to wander around inside Coachman Park to talk to Sarah Palin supporters. When reporters tried to leave the designated press area and head toward the bleachers where the crowd was seated, an escort would dart out of nowhere and confront him or her and say, "Can I help you?'' and turn the person around. When one reporter asked an escort, who would not give her name, why the press wasn't allowed to mingle, she said that in the past, negative things had been written. The campaign wanted to avoid that possibility Monday."

LoBot has repurposed it’s large main gallery into over 7 galleries to include over 50 participating artists in the DEAD show. Part art fair, part group show; each space is individually curated by the participating galleries. While this show serves to present a broad survey of bay area artists, it is also intended to raise awareness of Oaklands recent history of gallery start-ups and DIY art spaces. While there will be an exceptional amount of art present, there will also be an opportunity for interested viewers to expand there understanding of why individuals create these art spaces, and also why such spaces close their doors.

Participating galleries include:
Boontling, Liminal, Auto, 33 Grand, Oaklandish, Magnolia Gallery, and more.

Lobot Gallery will be open by appointment and for the following events:

October 4th - Resurrection Opening: 6pm-late, art, fun, live music.
October 2nd – Vice-Presidential Debate: 5:30-9 – projected in theater size
October 7th – Presidential Debate: 5:30-9 – projected in theater size
October 14th – Live Music: 8pm-1am - Mr Tube and the Flying Objects, The Scarecrows and TBA
October 15th – Preseidental Debate: 5:30-9 – projected in theater size
October 31st – Annual Halloween Bash : 7-late – Live Music, Costumes, Prizes, Dancing, Games …etc!

Chief Seattle's Letter To All THE PEOPLE
Chief Seattle, Chief of the Suquamish Indians allegedly wrote to the American Government in the 1800's - In this letter he gave the most profound understanding of God in all Things. Here is his letter, which should be instilled in the hearts and minds of every parent and child in all the Nations of the World:

"The President in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. But how can you buy or sell the sky? the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them?

Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every meadow, every humming insect. All are holy in the memory and experience of my people.

We know the sap which courses through the trees as we know the blood that courses through our veins. We are part of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters. The bear, the deer, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the dew in the meadow, the body heat of the pony, and man all belong to the same family.

The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors. If we sell you our land, you must remember that it is sacred. Each glossy reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The water's murmur is the voice of my father's father.

The rivers are our brothers. They quench our thirst. They carry our canoes and feed our children. So you must give the rivers the kindness that you would give any brother.

If we sell you our land, remember that the air is precious to us, that the air shares its spirit with all the life that it supports. The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also received his last sigh. The wind also gives our children the spirit of life. So if we sell our land, you must keep it apart and sacred, as a place where man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow flowers.

Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth.

This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.

One thing we know: our God is also your God. The earth is precious to him and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its creator.

Your destiny is a mystery to us. What will happen when the buffalo are all slaughtered? The wild horses tamed? What will happen when the secret corners of the forest are heavy with the scent of many men and the view of the ripe hills is blotted with talking wires? Where will the thicket be? Gone! Where will the eagle be? Gone! And what is to say goodbye to the swift pony and then hunt? The end of living and the beginning of survival.

When the last red man has vanished with this wilderness, and his memory is only the shadow of a cloud moving across the prairie, will these shores and forests still be here? Will there be any of the spirit of my people left?

We love this earth as a newborn loves its mother's heartbeat. So, if we sell you our land, love it as we have loved it. Care for it, as we have cared for it. Hold in your mind the memory of the land as it is when you receive it. Preserve the land for all children, and love it, as God loves us.

As we are part of the land, you too are part of the land. This earth is precious to us. It is also precious to you.

One thing we know - there is only one God. No man, be he Red man or White man, can be apart. We ARE all brothers after all."

The 2nd Annual Circus Show & Other Atrocities juxtaposes the dark, painful lives of performing animals with the fun, amusing atmosphere of the carnival.

Curator and artist Gale Hart brings together performers and visual artists to create a unique and powerful event. This year’s show Is already shaping up to be extraordinary!

The show has over 100 national and international artists participating. The performance line-up starts with Dan Piraro, creator of Bizarro, who will be joined by comedian and MC, Keith Lowell Jensen, singer Larisa Bryski, plus jugglers, belly dancers, firebenders and other performers, freaks, artist-made midway games and rides, as well as raffle prizes including original artwork and so much more. With proceeds donated to animal protection groups.

The artist reception and performances will be on Second Saturday, September 13th from 5pm – 10pm, with the World’s Largest Artist-Made Circus Train installation, on display in the gallery through October 11th.

The Circus Show is more than just a performance and art show as participants take to the streets for the unofficial Midtown Freak Parade and the event spills over to other venues throughout downtown Sacramento who will also have circus-themed shows the same evening. This year’s Circus Show will easily top the Ringling Bros. circus, which just happens to be in town the same weekend.

Recently I visited the Jack Hanley Gallery in San Francisco and checked out a collaboration show of kinetic sculptures by Chris Johanson and Kal Spelletich.

While I was there I put some of my own flyers down in the front window where they have other flyers and posters for their shows. Jack Hanley comes into the gallery and right away walks over to the window. He picks up my flyers, I am thinking hey maybe he's interested. Nope, he throws them right into the garbage in front of his gallery. Oh well enjoy the photos from the show:
